You are cordially invited to attend our AGM, details overleaf.

This year we are expecting that our speaker, local historian Peter Stanhope will create a significant interest. We are therefore having to make special arrangements re complimentary tickets. Please refer to the Annual General Meeting section.

Activities 2007/8
In support of our objectives your committee has in the past year: walked and reported on the Public Right of Way to Shipton, planted bulbs around the village and trees in two locations, refurbished some public benches, assisted with the redecoration of the Village Hall, commented on planning applications and exhibited at the Village Hall Open Days. Three successful speaker evenings were held.
Web Site
We launched our website –www.skeltonvillagetrust.org – which contains information about the village, its history, the Conservation Area and our programme of events. It also contains a copy of the current Draft Village Design Statement.
Village Design Statement
After eighteen months of discussion, research and consultation the steering group (on which the Village Trust is represented) produced its first draft Statement in March. This is now being distributed to interested parties in the village for further comment.
It is planned to submit a final draft to York City Council for their endorsement during the summer.
Eco-Town
Although the Government has published its first short-list of sites throughout England, it has left Leeds City Region (which includes York) to come up with its own proposal by July. This means the site adjacent to Skelton is still a possibility. However informed opinion regards its selection as highly unlikely.
Tree Report
The Village Trust has again planted trees and bulbs around the Village. The metal tree guards used on the Green not only protect the young trees but also enhance the appearance of the village. These guards will also be used when more trees are sited on the Brecksfield estate. Many people have commented on how attractive the village has looked this Springtime and we ask everyone to act responsibly with regard to litter and dog fouling so as to keep the village a pleasant place to live.
Village Archive
A reminder that the History Group welcomes contributions to its Skelton Social History project. Any memorabilia you would like to donate – photos, newspaper cuttings, documents - relating to Skelton life through the years, will be very welcome. Contributions can be left with Nancy Spratt, 13 The Vale, or at the Village school. Please label each item clearly and include the name and address of the donor.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Village Hall Wednesday 7 May 7.30pm
The agenda will be published on Parish noticeboards and copies of last year’s minutes are posted on the website and will be available at the meeting
Speaker: Peter Stanhope: Images of Disappeared York
This illustrated talk is a condensed version of a much praised presentation which Peter, for many years a prominent resident of Skelton, has given to large audiences in York. Because of the limited seating capacity of the Village Hall, admission will be by ticket (complimentary) only. Your ticket – admitting two – is included with this newsletter. If you cannot use the ticket would you kindly return it to any committee member –addresses below– so they can be re-allocated. Thankyou for your co-operation.
